Sur Sagar Palaces

Located 10kms from Jodhpur city are the Sur Sagar palaces, built on rectangular platforms made of white Makrana Marble. Situated opposite to each other, one of the palace was used by the queen and their friends, while the other one was occupied by the king and royal men. Two large halls built on the sides of the palaces were used by the maids and servants. Surrounded by huge security walls, these palaces decorated with beautifully carved domes and arches are fine examples of medieval architecture.

In 1817, when Marwar entered in an agreement with British Government, these palaces has been converted into the residence and office of the British Ambassador in the year 1838. The 1st Post Office of Jodhpur was opened in the meeting halls of these palaces.
