Erumeli located at a distance of 38 km from Kottayam is a place, which
is revered by both Hindus and Muslims. Erumeli Sastha Temple, where the
presiding deity is Lord Ayyapa, is an important meeting place in the pilgrimage
trip to Sabarimala. It is sometimes known as Kochambalam. There is a mosque-
Vavar Palli, located close to the temple. The ceremony of Petta Thullal
during the annual pilgrimage is a unique feature of this place. Pilgrimage
to Sabarimala without Pettathullal and worshiping at Sastha temple and
Vavarpalli is against the traditional dogmas. |
