Gurudwara Guru Ke Mahal, the residential house of Shri Guru Ramdas (founder
of Amritsar) is situated to the west of the Akal Takht, across the main
street known as Guru Bazar. Baba Atal Rai and Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur was
born at this place and Sri Guru Hargobind Singh was also lived ahere for
some time.
Initially in 1573, this Gurudwara was built as a humble hut by Guru Ram
Das and later it was enlarged and modified by Guru Arjan Dev and his son,
Guru Hargobind. Now it has been converted in the form of a shrine. Guru
Granth Sahib is placed in a large rectangular hall of this Gurudwara.
Apart from the daily rituals, special divan and Guru ka Langar are held
on the first Sunday of a Bikrami month. The birth anniversary of Guru
Tegh Bahadur is the main festival celebrated here.
