Cities & Towns Haryana Faridabad Destination Tourist Attractions Surajkund

Surajkund

Situated at a distance of 20kms from Delhi ( 8 Kms from South Delhi) Surajkund is a village in Faridabad lying between the villages of Baharpur and Lakkarpur. The Surajkund complex, believed to be built by the Rajput King Surajpal of Tomar dynasty, consists of a beautifully done-up Rajhans, a garden and a pool of fresh water - Siddha Kund, which is believed to have healing properties. Surajkund literally means 'Lake of the Sun'. Some says that the place derived its name after a famous Sun temple, which is said to have stood here once and some claim that it was named after King Surajpal.

The remains of the sun temple can be seen around the Surajkund Lake. The lake is an artificial man-made reservoir surrounded by rock cut steps specially built for the purpose of boating. This popular picnic spot with its serene surroundings and beauty is the venue of an annual crafts fair held in the month of February.
