Kankaria Lake is a man made lake located in
the south-east of Ahmedabad city. It was constructed by Sultan Qutub-ud-Din
in the year 1451. There's a zoo, natural history museum and children's
park by the lake and an island garden called Nagina Wadi which attracts
bird life. It is a polygonal lake with 34 sides and internal sluice gates.
The lake was in earlier times frequented by the Emperor and his queens,
but is now a popular picnic destination with tourists and local people
alike. The best time to visit the lake is in the evening.
