The extensive Nehru Zoological park, spanning 380 lush green acres on
the Hyderabad - Bangalore highway is one of the largest zoo's in India.
This premier recreation spot was opened to public in 1963. Situated 16kms
from Hyderabad, in the Bahadurpura area, this vast wildlife sanctuary
contains 1500 species of birds, animals and reptiles. White peacocks,
Royal Bengal Tiger and White Tiger, Black Panther, rhinoceros, Asiatic
Lions, American Bison, Zebras etc are among the different species found
in the park. It also has a large collection of snakes like hooded Indian
Cobra, Russell's Viper, Giant rock-python, tree snakes etc.
The crocodile hatchery and lion safari are the major attractions within
the zoo. The Zoological park also houses a natural history museum that
displays ancient artifacts and dummies of stuffed animals, a nocturnal
Birds park which houses rare and exotic species of nocturnal birds and
animals, an aquarium, a children's amusement park and a museum dedicated
to pre-historic animals.
Nehru Zoological Park is open on all days except Mondays. The timings
are 8.00A.M to 5.30P.M (April to June) and 8.30A.M to 5.00P.M (July to
March). The entry fee is Rs. 20 for adult and Rs. 10 for children.
