Respected Sir,

First of all sorry for the delay in answering your query.
I can give you a few general tips for pursuing PhD.

Before enrolling for PhD, she must get informed by the supervisor that on which specific subject she will be conducting her study. Some institutes admit students without giving a specific problem beforehand and student get stuck/ confused with subjects of a little or no importance. Most of this case, student conduct insignificant work and later her career end up, for example to say, as a lecturer in some institution, without doing any progressive research work. If your daughter really wants to be a great scientist, she may follow the following tips.

Try to visit websites of good institute for Microbiology not only in India but around the globe and get to know the research problems they are working on. Just for an example, see this link (http://web.mit.edu/microbiology/micro_at.html). If it is interesting, write to the concerned person about her interest in research with her detailed CV ( write the CV as per the research interest of the concerned person). He may contact her back, for sure, if her CV succeeded to impress the person. Sometimes, she may asked to clear entrance exams ( for example, UGC exam in India) for securing scholarship during her study.

For selecting a specific problem for PhD, it solely depend on the supervisor and funding agency, or in some rare case on the student herself. However, she must know the future aspects of the subject under study.
After her PhD, she can follow a few years of post doc career. During that period she may start to apply for projects by herself or as a consortium.
This is the time for establishing herself and establishing her own laboratories . This lead her to undertake other PhD students to work for her.
I hope, now you have got a clear picture about your daughter's career in research. The average time scale for this career growth will be roughly 4 years for PhD, 3 years for postdoc. For her personal life, I would suggest to find a person with relatively close to this career.

Write to us for more information.

Sincerely
Rupesh

Hi,
All the three courses you have mentioned have their own advantages. They may merge into one in some cases when you try for jobs or in research. MSc Biotechnology will have special papers in microbiology as well. Clinical research also includes some biotech and microbiological aspects. Some of the earlier discussions in this section will be useful to you, so please go through them as well.

Clinical and therapeutic research is a growing area and you can find better research/job prospects in that field also. I would suggest you to think of your comfort zone in Biotech or Clinical research, and chose one of them.
Regards,
Suresh
