Respected Sir, I want to bring your attention on the issue regarding opening of new IITs, IIMs and a sudden change of pattern of IIT-JEE exam.

First of all I would like to talk about opening of new IIT colleges, initially there were 7 IITs and now the no. is going to be 14 or more. But I have a serious doubt about this action. As I am also recently passed out from IIT so I wish to know you how the IIT system going to poorer in terms of teaching staff, accommodation (as seats are going to increase), placement etc.

There was a time that IIT colleges had a ranked no. 3 in global rankings of the world’s 100 best technology universities. But I am sorry to say that now IITs have diminished there brand values due to some reasons like seats are suddenly increased (increment is almost double or more than that), now IIT-JEE exam pattern is easier, and lack of concentration on technical knowledge.

I am taking doubt about increased seats because I know the internal problems of IIT system as I am also the part of it. During my B.Tech. program we people faced some problems that now colleges getting more congested. There was lack of teaching staff. Lastly the major problem in placement as many of graduates doesn’t get there job. I think if government wants to open new IITs then it will create more unemployed IITians which reduce the dignity of IIT tag. There is no use of being an IITian if he/she doesn’t get good facilities and placement. If government or IIT system is able to do so then only it worth of opening new IITs.

Nobody has taken survey of IITs or made a talk with the people and students who are the part of IIT system. I am quite sure that no student who is studying in IIT will support this decision. So before taking any change in any system we have to understand that system first.

Now days this a major issue that why coaching classes earning so much in teaching. I think there are much more important issues other than this which government should concern.

Now I would like to talk about recent news of changing pattern that 70% of marks in IIT-JEE exam would be based on XII board exam, I don’t think that this is a right decision as India don’t have a common board in all over country. State boards would also be play roles, which can’t be normalize in any method as there is big difference. By adopting this kind of pattern students will try to memories the things more than applying knowledge. This will reduce the quality of incoming students in IIT system.

Many of people have already raised these issues which are panic from such decisions. But still Government had not taken any action. At least there should be a visit in IITs to discuss problems which they are facing.

I hope my letter would reach to concern person at least one should read it seriously.

Thanking You,
Manish
