MERCHANT NAVY CAREER AFTER 10+2

Over 95% of the world’s trade goes by Sea, there are 85,000 merchant ships in the worlds and more than 100 types of Cargo Ships in 21st Century the seas of the world carry more goods than ever before because it is cheapest way of transportation. Merchant Navy is the commercial aspect of shipping industry and Indian Navy is the defence aspect. So there is a clear distinct difference between Merchant Navy & Indian Navy. 

Shipping Industry depends upon highly competent & professional Sea farers, who are respected everywhere in the world for high standard and quality. Indian Sea Farer's are in great demand worldwide because we have strong foundation in our academic teaching system, the technical apprehension are the best compared to other countries. 


Basically Ship are divided into 3 department i.e. Deck (Navigation) department, Engine Dept., Saloon Dept. where trained manpower are required, No person are eligible to join Maritime Industry without training according to IMO, IMU, DG Shipping (Govt. of India) norms. 

Deck Department : A deck officer are responsible to run and navigate the ship from one port to another and safe loading and unloading of cargo, managing ship communication system, after 10 + 2 or B.E. student are eligible to join the Deck Dept. A class III Certificate of Competency holder start as a Deck Officer – Salary approx. 1200 US$ with prospects of becoming a master (Captain) in about 8 Yrs. with Salary of Approx. 4500 to 14000 US$ plus Leave and allowance. 

Engine Department : After 10 + 2, Dip. (Mechanical, Electrical), B.E. (Mech.- Elect.) are eligible to join Engine Department. He has to operate and control all Engineering System on board the ship and maintain them good working condition. Class IV COC Holder start as a Fourth Engineer with a salary of approx. 1200 US$ with prospect of becoming a Chief Engineer in about 8 Yrs. with a salary approx. 10500 US $ plus leave and allowance.

i love to be an part of merchant navy.but i am afraid about my HSC percentage.and my family is also having much money problems.i wanted to put this poverty away from us and i wanted to get admitted in merchant navy.
