Certified Check
Definition

A certified check is a form of check for which the bank certifying that the maker of the check has enough money in his or her account to cover the amount to be paid. Those funds are then set-aside in the bank's internal account until the check is cashed or returned by the payee. Certified checks are typically used in situations where the recipient is unsure about the creditworthiness of the account holder and doesn't want to the check to bounce.
