The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program pays benefits to disabled adults and children who have limited income and resources. Temporary SSI payments made on the condition that the recipient get rid of certain assets in an appropriate manner. They are made if an applicant for SSI has too many assets to qualify for that program.
