Lucknow Zoo (Prince of Wales Zoological Gardens)

 

Lucknow Zoo alias Prince of Wales Zoological Gardens was established in the year1921. Situated in the heart of Lucknow in Banarsi Bagh near Hazratganj and sprawl over an area of 71.6 acres of land, the zoo has a museum, an aquarium and a toy train. The plane Rajhans used by Pandit Jawarharlal Nehru is also kept in the zoo. The zoo is the home to variety of flora and fauna and it consists of 57 reptiles, 447 mammals, 348 birds, and about 97 different species of wild animals ,which include White Tiger, Royal Bengal Tiger, Lion, Wolf, Hoolock Gibbon, Himalayan Black Bear, Swamp Deer, Barking Deer, Hog Deer, Indian Rhinoceros, Asiatic Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Black buck, Common Otters, Giant Squirrels, Hill Mynahs, Golden Pheasant, Silver Pheasant , Great Pied Hornbill, etc.

The Nature Interpretation Center here arrange a program for school children every Friday to give information about various animals and birds through wild life movie and also are given hands-on experience. The zoo opens from 8am to 5pm and remains closed on Mondays and on holi festival.
