Vijayawada,
the heart of Andhra Pradesh, also known as Bezawada, is located on the
banks of the Krishna River, 257km from Hyderabad. It is bounded by
Indrakiladri hills on the West and Budameru River on the North.
Historically it is considered as the cultural and political centre of
the state.
It was an important centre of the Vishnukundin rulers in the
5C -6C and the headquarters of the Early Chalukyas of Badami. The climate
of Vijayawada is tropical in nature with hot summers and moderate winters.
The best time to visit this place is Septemeber to February. The most
luscious mangoes, the king of fruits, are grown here and the region is
renowned for its tradition of pickle making. Today it is a thriving business
centre and a convenient base from which to visit varied historical sites.
