Tourism
sector has been assigned a high priority keeping in view the deep forest area
and favourable climate. The prominent places of tourist interest are
Tramkeshwara temple on
Sakartod river at Brinddaban, beautiful gardens on the banks of river at
Silvassa, the capital and Khanvel.
A
tourist complex at Khanvel named 'Van Vihar' has been set up. Van Ganga and
Vandhara Garden on the Damanganga river and Bai Udyam, are other picnic points. There is also a Deer
Park and a Tribal Museum. Water sports facilities have been developed at Dudhni
(40 kms from Silvassa) and Khadia Van Resort at Luhari is in full swing. Economy class
tourist accommodation Yatri Niwas at Silvassa is operative. October to
March is the best time to visit the place.
Tribal cultural Museum
The tribal museum is located at the capital Silvassa close to
the tourist information center. The museum aims to preserve tribal
culture. It showcases masks, hunting tools, fishing gear, musical instruments,
agricultural implements, household articles and life-size statues of local
tribes.
Entry is free and the timings are from 10am -5 pm
Van Ganga Garden
This beautiful lush green garden is located 5kms from
Silvassa. There is facilities for boat rides and thatched huts for stay.
Entry timings are from 10am- 6pm, closed on Tuesdays
Hirwa Van Garden, Piparia
There is a beautiful garden on the Silvassa - Dadra road with
misty waterfalls. Entry Timing is from 10am- 6pm. Tuesday holiday.
Tourist complex, Lohari
Lohari lies 14kms from Silvassa towards Naroli. Cottages here
amidst thick foliage and flowers offers a serene atmosphere to the visitors. The
surrounding forests offer options for trekking and camping.
Van Vihar tourist complex, Khanvel
Khanvel is a hilly area lying 20kms north of Silvassa. This
tourist complex at Chauda holds a deer park, cactus house, green house and
native cottages. The Satmalia wild life sanctuary nearby has hoards of fauna
such as sambhar, black bucks, chitals etc. There is a watchtower near a
waterhole here from where one can catch a glimpse of the animals.
Dudhni
Dudhni located 40kms north west of Silvassa and 20kms from
Khanvel, holds a huge water reservoir of the Damanganga river surrounded by the
foothills of the western ghats. Water sports facilities such as water scooters,
rowing boats, kayaks and canoes are available for rides in this picturesque
environs. Tents pitched right near the river bank and bonfire at night provide a
wonderful experience.
Trambakeshwar
Trambakeshwar, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of the Hindu pantheon
lies 115 km away from Silvassa. Other pilgrimage sites of Nasik and Shirdi lie close by.
