NEW POWER DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
The most noteworthy projects:
THEIN DAM PROJECT
Thein Dam Project, envisages the construction of a dam and power plant on
river Ravi, 24 kilometers upstream of Madhopur head works. The power plant
comprises four units of 120 MW.
SHANAN EXTENSION PROJECT
The Shanan extension project was completed in 1982 and its unit
of 50 MW has been
commissioned. Regarding the strengthening of hill slopes, necessary action was
initiated and the work of providing horizontal drainage holes to release
saturated water pressure and anchoring the hill slopes was taken up during
1983-84.
SHAHPURKANDI BARRAGE AND POWER PLANT SCHEME
This scheme envisages the constitution of high-level barrage and a power
plant across the Ravi river near Shahpurkandi, about 8kms upstream of the
existing Madhopur head works. The power plant consist of two units of 47 MW each.
SUTLEJ-YAMUNA LINK PROJECT
(SYL)
The SYL project envisages generation of 44 MW of Power at two power houses.
Two units of 12 MW each installed at PH-I and two units of 10 MW each at PH-II. The power house-I is located near
Ropar and power house-II near Rajpura.
ANANDPUR SAHIB HYDEL PROJECT
This project envisages generation of 134 MW of Power at two power houses,
each housing two units of 33.5MW. These power houses are located near Ganguwal
and Nakkian on the Anandpur Sahib Hydel Channel which is about 35 Km long
and runs almost parallel to the existing Nangal Hydel Channel.
MUKERIAN HYDEL PROJECT
This project envisages the construction of a 36 Km long hydel channel of
11,500 uses capacity, taking-off at River Beas down-stream of Pong Dam at Shah
Nahar Barrage near Talwara township. This channel will end into River Beas
near village Churian.
Four more powerhouses are constructed on hydel channel at the following
locations.
Powerhouse I at RD: 6.350 Km-Three machines f 15 MW each
Powerhouse II at RD: 16.004 Km-Three machines of 15 MW each.
Powerhouse III at RD: 18.879 Km-Three machines of 1.95 MW each.
Powerhouse IV at RD: 25.930 Km-Three machines of 15 MW each.
