'Dum' has a hero who fights odds with mental strength.

In 1984, Morani and Soorma, two young and dynamic entrepreneurs, joined hands to form Cineyug. They hit the bull's eye with their very first film Arjun (Sunny Deol, Dimple Kapadia). Their latest venture, titled Dum, doesn't star their childhood buddy Sunny but Vivek Oberoi, and is directed by E. Niwas. This movie shows how the hero overcomes the barriers that come in the way of his crusade against the forces of injustice and evil that blacken society.

Vivek Oberoi portrays Uday Shinde, an aspiring cop whose strength lies in his values and ethics. His aspirations are put to test several times and each time he rises like the phoenix from the ashes. How he does it forms the crux of the film. Even as Vivek (Uday Shinde) courageously treads his chosen path, he is confronted by the face of evil in the form of a police officer, Shankar (Atul Kulkarni). Shankar's selfish intentions are almost as strong as Uday's selfless, noble ones. Indeed, just as each coin has two sides, society has two faces, that of the good and evil, that of Uday and Shankar.

Diya Mirza who plays the female lead in the movie is Kaveri, a TV host who loves Uday Shinde as much as she loves life. Uday treads on a dangerous path and does everything to turn away her love. But true love never understands the language of fear. Kaveri knows how to wait and win. Yashpal Sharma is Babu Kasai. When the mafia, politics and the police go hand in hand, men like Babu Kasai go from strength to strength. For Babu, every life has a price. But one day he is assigned a wrong life the life of Uday Shinde. What if the tables turn this time? Uday's dream of becoming a police officer and serve his country is accompanied by fierce determination and drive.

The music has been composed by Sandeep Chowta of Mast fame. There are about eight songs in the movie sung by various artists like Sonu Nigam, Sukhwinder Singh and Anuradha Shriram.

For both actress Diya Mirza and Vivek Oberoi, Dum could be a crucial release in their success graph. It remains to be seen if they can both carry a film on their shoulders. Dum is slated for release on January 10, 2003
