Ram Gopal Varma is back with yet another horror flick after 'Raat', made in his own mesmerizing style.

The story revolves around a couple Vishal ( Ajay Devgan), a stock analyst and his wife Swati ( Urmila Matondkar) who shifts to this 12th floor apartment of a high rise building in Mumbai. The flat turns out be spooky especially for Swati who begins to see things once she finds out that the previous occupant, a young woman had committed suicide by jumping off the balcony. Vishal who had known this earlier had kept it a secret from his wife and was not at all hassled about it until it begins to affect Swati. At first he writes it off as a psychological problem but as Swati gets more and more disoriented, he is distressed. All attempts by the doctors and psychologists fail and everyone is convinced that something beyond their control is happening to Swati... but how could they deal with the supernatural.

The film is a different genre from the usual horror flicks released till date. Ram Gopal Varma treats the theme differently with no songs or light moments but with enough to keep you at the edge of your seats. Some sequences especially when the ghost of Manjeet (Barkha Madan) appears for the first time and comes face to face with Swati are particularly creepy.

Technically the film is perfect with the director giving attention to every small detail. Dwarak Warrier's sound effects, Salim-Sulaiman's background score, Vishal Sinha's cinematography all contributes profoundly to built the mood of the film. After the initial interesting build up, the narrative suffers- becomes predictable especially after the first half and fails to maintain the mood and ends in a disappointing climax. Varma should have paid more attention to the script as well.

The cast includes veterans like Rekha as a psychic, Tanuja as Manjeet's (ghost) mother, Victor Banerjee as the psychiatrist struggling with his own personal tragedy and Nana Patekar as the cop who investigates the murder that takes place, Seema Biswas as the servant and Fardeen Khan as the neighbour. Ajay Devgan is impressive as the caring but helpless husband but it is Urmila who steals the show with her mind blowing performance. She portrays the character's helplessness and the obsessive state when she is possessed with amazing excellence.

Overall the film is worth watching for its technical excellence and Urmila's performance.. It is a new attempt worth appreciating.
