The architect of the Indian Constitution Dr. Ambedkar was born in a very poor low caste family at Mahu in Madhya Pradesh. He had his schooling from the Elphinstone High School in Bombay and passed B.A Examination with Persian and English from the University of Bombay.  He completed his masters (MA) in 1915 and Ph.D. in 1916 from the USA. From 1918 to 1920, he worked as a Professor of Law. Dr. Ambedkar set up his legal practice at the Mumbai High Court. 

Ambedkar was the main inspiration behind the inclusion of special provision in the Constitution of India for the development of Scheduled Caste people. Dr. Ambedkar was the Law Minister of India from 1947 to 1951. He took part in the Satyagraha of untouchables at Nasik in 1930 for opening Hindu temples to them. This liberator of the down trodden was affectionately called "Babasaheb".
Ambedkar’s entire life was dedicated to one purpose – securing justice and equality to those people who are called ‘untouchables’.

The film is based on the life of Ambedkar from the age of 26 to his last days, and his fight against the caste bars and system. The movie highlights his struggle, his active days as the leader of the untouchables and his transformation to Buddhism. South Indian super star Mammootty played the role of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar for which he received the National award for best actor.
