Watch Diya Mirza, winner of Miss India Asia Pacific title and now
an actress. She is no longer the person who won the crown three years
ago. Her debut film "Rehnaa Hai Teree Dil Mein" with Madhavan was a
box office disaster followed with two other flops, "Deewanapan" with
Arjun Rampal and "Tumko Naa Bhool Payenge" with Salman Khan.
But failures have not deterred her from moving ahead. The young lady
is all set for her new film "Dum" with Bollywood's current heart-throb
Vivek Oberoi. The movie is releasing this week. Diya is not only excited
but confident as well of making a mark this time. She spoke in an interview.
Tell us how you bagged "Dum"?
Diya : "Dum" came into my life after my Miss India contest .I was approached
by the Moranis from The Cineyug to do this film opposite Vivek who was
a newcomer then. I really liked the script and my role. That's how I got
the role.
What kind of character are you playing in the film?
Diya : I am playing a television journalist called Kaveri. This is a
very commercial film where every character has a purpose to serve rather
than just being mere props. I play a simple girl who symbolizes power
or "Shakti" to Vivek Oberoi In-fact she is a very vocal character with
moments of silence. that speak volumes about her character.
How was the total experience of working with Vivek Oberoi?
Diya : When I had signed the film, Vivek's first film was not released.
All I knew was he is Suresh Oberoi's son and he is very good. And believe
me, he is really good. He is focused and is an amazing actor. Even though
he has become successful today, he is the same guy and remains what he
was.
You are working with E.Niwas for the first time. What kind of rapport
you share with him?
Diya : It was such a pally rapport since he is of my age. We both being
young made us very comfortable with each other. I could just ask him anything
without feeling awkward. Both of us were very chilled out.
You started rather young. Don't you feel it was amateurish to enter
filmdom of such an early age?
Diya : Most of the established actresses like Rani Mukherjee, Karisma
and Kajol started young and were successful. I won my Miss India crown
when I was 18 and today I am part of the industry or, say, I am where
I always wanted to be. So age does not matter here at all.
Are you doing some roles of substance or just doing regular cliched
glam roles only?
Diya : Most of my future films do not present me in the glam look but
in non-glam substantial role. Like "Dum" is a very realist film and my
role is very simple .In my next film "Praan Jaaye Par Shaan Naa Jaaye",
I am again playing a plain Jane. So I am concentrating more on my performance
than just look good.
How comfortable are you with the filmi dance and song routine?
Diya : I love it, it is great fun. Initially I was a bit awkward but
now I just love dancing and songs.
So now you feel yourself a part of the film industry?
Diya : I am very grateful to the industry for accepting me. Very few
get even a second chance and I am lucky that I am getting a third chance
after three flops. So I am really grateful to the industry for giving
me an opportunity to prove my potential.
What you are your expectations from "Dum"?
Diya : Somehow I had this gut feel that the film will do well. We all
have worked so hard that I see no reason for anything else. I am sure
everyone is going to enjoy the film.
Which are your films that you are looking forward to?
Diya : I am doing a film called "Tehzeeb" with Khalid Muhammad where
I am playing a very interesting role. Then I have a Govind Nihalani film
and another film with Mahesh Manjrekar called Padamshree Laloo Prasad
Yadav and I'm playing the title role of Padamshree.
