An adaptation of H.G.Wells 19th century novel, it is an incredibly suspenseful
science fiction extravaganza. Tom Cruise plays Ray Ferrier, a divorced New York
City dockworker, living alone in a rundown house. His ex-wife Mary Ann (Miranda
Otto) has the main custody of his two children, teenager Robbie (Justin Chatwin)
and ten year old Rachel (Dakota Fanning).
One weekend Ray had the custody of his kids. Ray was known to his kids as a deadbeat
dad. This time the kids and the dad
didn't get much time to resolve their problems due to a series of strange
weather events. A strong wind is followed by a miserable electric storm and
lightening that precedes the first alien attack. Streets and buildings crack
open, as a gigantic Tripod bursts up from the ground killing all the people
around the area.
Ray escapes most
of this calamity, get hold of his kids and take off in a car that is
powered by solar energy. Ray makes it to his ex-wife's house but finds
that she and her new husband has gone to Boston. Now Ray has to put
up with his kids who are not impressed by his parental skills. Find
out more about Ray's survival tactics and see whether the family is
going to make it through the dare situation.
Veteran director Steven Spielberg meticulously retells a 100 year
old story with charm and charisma. He creates outstanding scenes of
death and destruction in the first half of the film. He takes a simple
event and develop it in his own way with great imagination. The amazing
CG visual effects will keep you on the edge of your seat. The special
effects are spectacular and breath taking. The effects of light and
sound are really shocking. The plot is wonderful and the storyline and
photography are great. The director puts everything together to make
it as much real as possible. The ending is too quick and makes it a
little confusing. The fascinating idea of alien invasion will be always
popular with the public, and the film will be no different.
Tom
Cruise as Ray presents an intense performance. He portrays his fear and madness,
as a frantic father turned into a savior, very well. Dakota Fanning gives
a commanding performance too. Her tremendous talent in acting makes her the ideal
character for the role. It is a well made movie with a talented cast and a great
director. This is one of the best movies of this year.
We rate this movie
GOOD.
