The live action film based on Dr. Seuss’ children’s classic ' The Cat In The Hat', one of the top ten best selling children's books of all time, is the story of two kids , a little boy Conrad (Spencer Breslin ) and his sister Sally (Dakota Fanning ), who were home alone on a rainy day with nothing to do while their mother was out.

Single mother Joan ( Kelly Preston ),who is a real estate agent, has to go out that afternoon leaving the two children in the care of the baby sitter. With the unexpected arrival of the mischievous ' The Cat In the Hat' (played by Mike Myers) a big chaos is created and the house is turned almost into ruins.

Joan’s boss Mr. Humberfloob (Sean Hayes) had demanded her a spotless house to host a company gathering of real estate clients that evening. But both of them are unaware of what had gone wrong at the house that afternoon. Now, what happens next is to be seen. Will Joan’s boss get angry and fire her? Will the house get magically repaired ? Will the kids get punished for their misdeeds?

There are too many subplots in the movie which is not originally in the book and it has been ruthlessly sexualized. Most of the film is filled with witless humour but some of the parts are funny and Myers’ approach to the film is a mystery, he seem to find it hard to keep pace. The movie is kind of visually impressive with spectacular sets, a specialty of production manager turned director Bo Welch and recommended for the children. The opening credits retain the blue, red, and white of the book's color scheme.

On the whole, we rate this movie BELOW AVERAGE.
