A drama based on the true story of a professional ballroom dancer who worked
with the kids at a New York City public school and changed their lives.
Antonio Banderas stars as Pierre Dulaine who had been teaching ballroom dance
to the wealthy. The film is inspired by the real life story of Pierre
Dulaine who gets the permission from the principal of an inner city
high school to teach ballroom dancing to troubled kids of that school.
Mr. Dulaine as a young boy, grew up poor in England, and had to do odd
jobs to make the ends meet as well as to pay for the dance lessons
that he loved to take. Dance really changed his life and he became
an internationally acclaimed dance director of American Ballroom
Theater. In 1994, he decided to teach ballroom dancing to troubled kids
of New York City public school, and eventually lead them to participate
in a major ballroom dance competition.

Director Liz Friedlander
skillfully narrates a real life story with great charm and wit. She
has assembled a talented group of actors and presents an interesting tale
that has a climax in the ballroom competition where the young school kids
compete with the highly talented professional dancers.
Antonio Banderas as Pierre Dulaine presents a wonderful performance. He
has the charisma and charm to take the lead role in the film. Some
of the supporting cast also did a good job.
Even though the the story is very much predictable, the dance sequences
are enjoyable. Director successfully correlates the link between
dance and real life. The film mixes the moments of classical and
hip hop dance and forms a new wave of dance moment which is great.
We rate this movie GOOD.
