It is a comedy, sequel to 1994 hit "The Mask" which made Jim Carrey the super star comedian.

"Son Of The Mask" revolves around Tim Avery (Jamie Kennedy), a troubled animator who is trying to make his own cartoon. One day Tim's dog finds a mask and Tim wears it to a Halloween party. The same night, Tim happened to wear that mask when he and his wife Tonya (Taylor Howard) conceive a child. The mask, a magical one is an artifact belonging to Loki (Alan Cumming), the Norse god of mischief. His father, one eyed Odin, King of the gods orders him to get it back.

As Tim was wearing the mask while he and his wife conceive the child, the child inherits the magical powers of Loki. Now, Loki begins checking out every child born on Tim's baby's birthday. At the same time Tim is also looking for the mask which has been hidden by his dog. Tim has no idea about the unusual abilities of his baby. The movie then takes a turn into special effects for some cartoonish fun.

The director Lawrence Guterman makes a silly movie out of a silly theme. By incorporating a dog and a kid, he tries to create a niche theme by blending live action and computer animated effects. The story has no substance and the special effects are not so exceptional. Even though it has some funny moments, it is by no means equal to the original. Jamie Kennedy tries to do justice to his role but he is no Jim Carrey. Rest of the characters are mediocre. The movie revolves around live action animation which has nothing to do with the original. Young kids may be entertained by the interplay between dog and the kid but definitely it is not for the adults. The movie is kind of dumb with silly humor and a dull story with forgettable characters. It could be classified as a kid friendly film, it could also be the worst film of the year 2005.

We rate this movie BELOW AVERAGE.
