It is an epic science-fiction adventure based on the TV series "Firefly" that ran on the Fox Networks for a short period.

The story unfolds in the future world, exactly 500 years into the future. After a civil war, the good guys had lost and the Alliance rules the universe. The earth is no longer habitable and humans are trying to conquer other planets of the solar system.

As soon as the Alliance got power, two people River Tam (Summer Glau) and her brother Simon (Sean Maher) ran away and wounded up on the spaceship Serenity which was under the command of Captain Malcom "Mal" Reynolds
(Nathan Fillion). Mal's crew consisted of hot and powerful Zoe (Gina Torres), pilot Wash (Alan Tudyk), gunslinger Jayne (Adam Baldwin) and the mechanic Kaylee (Jewel Staite).

Simon had actually rescued River from an Alliance run lab where various tests were conducted on her. Now the Alliance wants her back very badly. The crew of Serenity find it very difficult to protect River from the powerful Operative and his forces. Find out what is going to happen to River, Simon as well as the crew of Serenity.

Director Joss Whedon in his feature debut, narrates an action filled adventurous tale with great charm. He picked up the whole story from a cancelled TV show on the Fox Network and gave it a rebirth on the big screen. He made the story interesting by giving it a new look of the future. All the characters are very good and likeable.

The movie has good special effects and breathless action sequences which are intense. The dialogues are good. Fans of Star Trek will love this film. Movie has a lot of room for a sequence in the coming years. This is one of the best movies of the year.
