A New York based romantic comedy in which a 37 year old woman falls in love with a 23 year old man.
Rafi Gardent (Uma Thurman) is a sexy young Manhattan based fashion industry
magnet. After her recent divorce she has been seeing Upper West side based therapist Lisa
Metzger (Meryl Streep). Lisa tried to cheer up Rafi and advised her to go and have fun.
Rafi meets handsome David Bloomberg (Bryan Greenberg) an aspiring young
artist from Brooklyn, who is living with his grandparents. After both
of them lied a little about their age, actually Rafi is 37 and David is
23, Rafi takes David to her Manhattan apartment where they have
sex. Rafi falls in love with David.
During the next session, Rafi talks openly about her wild sexual experiences
to Lisa. On Lisa's part she was basically happy to hear that Rafi is having
fun and suggested that it should be good for both David and Rafi as they
are in their sexual prime. But on her next visit, Lisa is shocked
to realize that Rafi is dating her own younger son David.
Lisa has many issues with this relationship. She is a hard core Jewish mom who wants her son to marry a younger Jewish
girl. What irks Lisa apart from the fact that Rafi is not Jewish, is that she
suspects that David and Rafi are having a relationship just for the sake of sexual
fulfillment. Lisa ends up seeing her own shrink Rita (Madhur Jaffrey) who advised her that her primary
responsibility is towards Rafi because this relationship could be temporary and once it ends Rafi will need Lisa's help
more than ever. Now Lisa is in a total dilemma.

In the meantime,
David's grandparents decided to move to Florida and he was in need of
a place to stay. Rafi was very happy about this situation mainly because
by having David living with her, she can have great sex every night with
her young lover. But when David moved in with her, she gets annoyed by
David's closeness. Find out whether their love affair blossom and
bloom? Can an older woman find happiness with a younger man and vice versa?
Talented director Ben Younger skillfully presents a comedy about an older woman in love
with a younger man. After a long absence he has made a decent return with this romantic comedy.
He has assembled a top notch cast and has extracted a decent performance out of
them. He deals with age inappropriate love affair, mixed faith romance as well as some
psychoanalysis.
Oscar winner Meryl Streep presents an excellent performance as a hard core Jewish mother and
a psychiatrist in dilemma. Sexy Thurman is lovely and good as usual. As a woman in
love, she is simple but preoccupied with her own agenda. The handsome new comer Bryan
Greenberg does a very good job as David.
The story of an older woman in love with a younger man is nothing new. By highlighting the age
difference in a relationship, the director makes the audience think about the realities
in such a relationship. The movie is funny, amusing and enjoyable. If you are a fan of Uma Thurman
or Meryl Streep, you will love this film.
We rate this movie GOOD.
