A remake of 1972 popular disaster classic "Poseidon Adventure", that deals with a group of passengers trying to escape from a gigantic sinking cruise ship named "Poseidon".

The luxury cruise ship Poseidon is capsized by a 100 foot giant wave in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean just before a New Year's party begins. Hundreds of passengers die as the ship flips over and many more get trapped inside. The story is about a small group of people who battle to survive.

Among the people trying to survive include Dylan Johns (Josh Lucas) a gambler, and ex-New York Mayor Robert Ramsey (Kurt Russell) together with his daughter Jennifer (Emmy Rossum) and her lover Christian (Mike Vogel). Dylan heads off on his own while Robert trying to find his family is forced to join him. As Jennifer and Christian were trapped under rubble on a different floor, they ended up getting some help from a Latina stowaway Elena (Mia Maestro).

Another group of survivors include a gay architect Richard Nelson who has suicidal tendencies, a waiter Valentin (Freddy Rodriguez) who knows the back routes of the ship very well and Maggie (Jacinda Barrett) and her son Conor (Jimmy Barrett). It was a Herculean effort on the part of these two groups to make head way to their escape from the sinking giant. Find out more about these two groups, whether they are going to survive or die.

Talented director Wolfgang Petersen tries his best to narrate a disaster tale in a spectacular way. He builds up good suspense but some of the sequences fails to inter connect. He skillfully presents each and every ordeal with great care and tries to make the tale hilarious. He very well portray the emotional bonding among the people trying to survive. In comparison to the original film, the overall production design and the special effects are better.

Kurt Russel and Josh Lucas presents a decent performance. The rest of the cast are okay. Even though the incredible task of survival is illustrated with some charm, as a whole the film lacks the inter connectivity and hence it is an inferior remake of the original film. If you are a fan of Kurt Russell or Josh Lucas then you will enjoy this film more.

We rate this movie AVERAGE.
