The movie 'On the Outs' is based on the real stories of the life of
three girls from the streets of Jersey City, New Jersey.
The film follows the lives of three girls from the rough neighborhood
of Jersey City. 15 year old Suzette (Anny Mariano) a sweet, innocent
girl lives with her mother who works hard to support her family. Suzette
is influenced by the sweet talk of a smooth talking hustler which resulted
her to get pregnant. When her mother insisted on getting an abortion,
Suzette ran away from home to live with her lover.
Oz (Judy Marte) is a teenage drug dealer, the daughter of a crack addict
who was born as a crack baby. Even though she is smart enough to handle
every day problems, she always gets into trouble and couldn't stay out
of jail.
The story of Marisol
(Paola Mendoza) is different from these two girls. She is a crack addict
and a single mom with a two year old daughter. This teen mother made
a lot of wrong decisions and her daughter is taken into the state's
custody. When she was hit by a car, her whole world collapsed with it.
The directors skillfully deals with the perilous, tragic life stories
of these inner city girls. The roles of the main characters are played
by very talented actresses. The supporting cast is also good. Even though
it is a low budget film, it successfully portrays the pathetic situation
in the inner cities. The directors emphasize the fact that these girls
come to realize that the choices are theirs to make, whatever the situations
may be.
Judy Marte as Oz presents a brilliant performance. Anny Mariano as
Suzette portrays her role with grace and charm. Her role as an innocent
teenage girl in love is touching. Above all, Paola Mendoza as Marisol
is well played. The film has many touching moments. The audience will
be touched and torn by the plight of these poor young girls struggling
with their lives.
We rate this movie GOOD.
