National Treasure is an action adventure and a conspiracy film that deals with the discovery of the Knights Templar Treasure. Buried treasure beneath the Temple Of Solomon in Jerusalem was discovered by The Knights Templar who carried it across the Atlantic to the new country that they eventually settled in. They buried the treasure and set up a complicated system to protect it.

Nicolas Cage plays Benjamin Franklin Gates, the eighth generation of the Gates men who is consistently hunting for the buried treasure. His grandfather (Christopher Plummer) tells him that one of their ancestors was told by the signer of the Declaration of Independence that there was a secret treasure. Also, there is a clue that is coded into the back of the Declaration Of Independence. The main clue was a reference to "Charlotte", a shipwreck.

Ben accompanied by his sidekick Riley (Justin Bartha) and Ian Howe (Sean Bean) who financed the expedition, discover the "Charlotte". But it was necessary to get to the Declaration of Independence to get the detailed information of the buried treasure. Ben also finds out that Ian wants to dig up the treasure just by himself. Only way for Ben to stop him, is to steal the Declaration of Independence from the National Archives in Washington and keep the secret by himself. With the help of Dr.Abigail Chase (Diane Kruger), a National Archives curator, Ben and Riley take on the adventure of finding the buried treasure.

Director Jon Turteltaub narrates an adventurous tale. He is known for making every film a brand of it's own. But most part of this film is terribly dragging with unnecessary hidden messages. Most of the characters are in frequent peril. The director has just concentrated on the lamest elements of the film. Overall the story lacks reality. Cage puts up a decent performance as a naive and brilliant Benjamin Gates. Diane Kruger as the curator who trails after Ben, doesn't have much to do other than just someone pretty to look at. As a whole this is a mediocre film.

We rate this movie Average.
