Based on the book by Claire Cook, 'Must love Dogs' is a romantic comedy that
deals with Internet dating and rediscovery of love in the lives of two
people.
Diane Lane plays Sarah Nolan, a recently divorced, thirty year old preschool
teacher. After a bad divorce Sarah hates men with a great passion. But her
father Bill (Christopher Plummer) and two sisters Carol (Elizabeth Perkins) and
Christine (Ali Hills) think that Sarah should date again and have some fun in
her monotonous life. Sarah's sisters put her profile on an Internet dating
website, part of it says that "DWF seeks special man to share starlit
nights. Must love dogs".
The
funny thing is that Sarah doesn't even have a dog herself. There were
a lot of prospective candidates but an idealist boat builder Jake Anderson
(John Cusack) is chosen to meet with Sarah. Sarah gets a lot of support
from her family and friends and somebody even let her borrow a dog,
just to cover up the lie and to make her life clock tick again. Find
out more about these love birds...
Director Gary Goldberg presents a love story with a weak dialogue and slow
pace. The story is very predictable. The theme of finding love in this
modern era, with the help of the Internet has been dealt with, in a number of
films. He presents a beautiful cast that have plenty of charisma.
Gorgeous Diane Lane presents a mediocre performance. John Cusack steals the
show, he is likeable and strong. But, together Diane and John are wasted as love
birds, as they have no chemistry between them. Movie touches the lives of two
people who are trying to find love again. Even though it is an emotionally
resonant, decent and honest love story, it doesn't have much appeal. Young
people may not like it but people over 30 with disappointments in love may find
the film interesting. It is a chick-flick, but you should have an open mind to
explore the underlying theme of this film "Internet Dating Is Great".
We rate this movie AVERAGE.
