It is a romantic comedy that deals with jealousy and resentment between a would be mother in law and daughter in law.

Jane Fonda plays Viola Fields a Barbara Walters style TV interviewer. She is lately replaced by a beautiful, younger model that makes Viola a bitter person.

Dr.Kevin Fields (Michael Vartan) is Viola's only son and he is a surgeon. Viola is a control freak and she wants to keep Kevin to herself.

Jennifer Lopez plays Charlott Cantilini or "Charlie". She is a young, beautiful lower class Latino girl who drifts from job to job like dog walker, yoga instructor, caterer as well as a temp. Dr.Kevin meets her
at a cocktail party and it was love at first sight. After a few dates Kevin wants to marry Charlie and he wants her to meet his mother Viola.

But Viola loses her mind, when she came to about Kevin's love affair with a lower class girl. She is convinced that Charlie is not good enough to marry her prince charming son. She decides to stop him from marrying Charlie. Soon the two women meet and they start war to hang on to their man "Kevin".

Viola tried things like insulting Charlie in public, sabotaging her wardrobe and even poison her with her known allergy, almonds. Initially Charlie took it lightly but later on she started to dish the bitchiness back at her would be mother-in-law, Viola.

Australian director, Robert Luketie narrates a story of jealousy and revenge between two women. Movie doesn't have much of a story and Luketie flips back and forth between the plots and just focus on the arguments between Fonda and Lopez. He portrays the two women as manipulative bitches.

Jane Fonda makes a successful return to the silver screen after 15 years of absence. She is hilarious and gives a good comic performance. The Oscar winner plays the role of Viola with charm and wit. She portrays  an older woman's jealousy towards a younger girl who tries to steal her only son, very well.

Beautiful Jennifer Lopez presents a mediocre performance. But for J.Lo, it is a nice come back after Gigli. As Charlie she is sweet and lovable. Her transformation from a sweetheart to a bitch is nicely portrayed. Lopez and Vartan make a great couple but they don't have much chemistry together. She is lively and charming but the character presentation is rather poor.

As a whole, the movie doesn't have much substance other than a few funny moments. Story is very predictable and the script is poor and doesn't have much laughs. If you are a J.Lo fan you might enjoy it.

We rate this film AVERAGE.
