The pain of growing up as well as love and sex begin to drive them
apart, still they are so obsessed with the game that they manage to
meet and play the game of dare. At one point, they fall madly in love
but as prisoners of the game they could not admit their feelings or
sexual attraction for each other, which gives them emotional pain
and distress. In fact the game rule their life, forcing them to suppress
their true emotions and complicating their relationship altogether.
French director Yann Samuell brings out a different kind of theme
in his debut movie, showing life long friendship and closeness as
well as, how a game of dare keeps the protagonists apart with a series
of miscommunications. He has a tremendous ability to carry on the
movie in an unpredictable way with 'a love of game' which supercedes
everything else in life. It may be difficult to correlate the relationship
and love of Julien and Sophie with any real people or real life, but
Yann has succeeded in spinning a cutesy tale of endless love.
Performance by Canet and Cotillard are excellent. They make a delightful
screen couple. They have handled their parts with warmth and grace
portraying convincingly, a lifetime bond between them. It is a love
story with a darker edge and with an open ended finale, leaving it
to the viewer to decide the fate of Julien and Sophie.
We rate this movie Good.
