It is a romantic comedy that deals with two high school friends, with just one of them being madly in love with the other.

In 1995, Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) was a shy and over weight boy when he attended high school in the suburbs of New Jersey. The beautiful, hottest girl in high school, Jamie Palamino (Amy Smart) was his best friend. He had a secret crush on her but Jamie didn't have any special feelings for him and she considered Chris as "Just a Friend".

On the night of graduation, Chris finally reveals his feelings for Jamie but she told him that he is Just a friend and nothing more. Chris was humiliated and he decided to leave Jamie and New Jersey forever.

Chris moved to Los Angeles. Over a period of ten years he reinvented himself, lost some weight, career wise he climbed the ladder and becomes a smooth talking Hollywood record executive. With a new project in hand, to sign up a sexy singer Samantha James (Anna Faris), it is a tedious job for Chris. On his way to Paris together with Samantha, due to a plane mishap they ended up in his old home town in New Jersey.

Chris runs into Jamie who has been working in a bar. She has been living with her parents and was still unmarried. Jamie and Chris hook up again and after ten years he is again faced with the challenge to fulfill his longing for Jamie. Find out if Chris can win the heart of his high school dream lover.

Director/writer Roger Kumble tries to narrate a one sided romantic tale. He tries to make the film funny by putting in some funny sequences, but he fails to make the audience catch up with the story and grow with it. Poorly written screenplay makes the film a total bore with a brainless romantic tale.

Ryan Reynolds as Chris presents a decent performance and he practically carries the film. Beautiful Amy Smart looks good on the screen. Relationship between them fails to blossom and bloom into a romance or love affair.

The theme is neither fresh nor has any reality. It has too many illogical ideas incorporated into it which makes the viewers tangled in a world of boredom. If you are a fan of Amy Smart or Ryan Reynolds, you may like the film.

We rate this movie AVERAGE.
