'Intimate Strangers' is a sentimental thriller, a sophisticated, enchanting French drama with English subtitles. It is a story of mistaken identity of two strange protagonists with a curious compatibility.

Anna Delambre (Sandrine Bonnaire), a beautiful, nervous woman who was troubled by her resentful husband and sexless marriage is seeking the help of a psychiatrist to talk about her personal problems. She arrives at a Paris apartment building for her appointment with a new psychiatrist, Dr.Monniel (Michel Duchaussoy) she has never met, but by mistake goes to the next office.

It was William Faber( Fabrice Luchini), an accountant's office. He is a very mild mannered man by nature. Before he can correct her, she starts pouring out her heart to him and he listens very patiently as she discusses her marital problems. After listening to the details of her marriage, personal matters and emotional agony, he feels sorry for her. On an impulse, he simply agrees when she asks for a second appointment with in a week. William had no idea and was clueless, how to handle Anna's plight. He consults with his neighbor the real Psychiatrist Dr. Monniel who warns him "Once ajar, the door to female mystery is hard to close again". But as a lonely man he used to spend time listening to music and sneaking peaks at lovers at the apartment across the way, and he gets turned on by Anna's explicit talk about sex.

Anna returns to his office again and again with minute details of her loveless marriage. She starts taking advantage of his attraction for her. Their game of doctor and patient gets prolonged and he falls head over heals for her and an intimate relationship develops between them. But when the truth is revealed, Anna realizes her mistake and she comes down hard, on this meek accountant. He accepts the blame with nothing to justify. William never expects to see her again, but she comes back to see him again. She couldn't give up the comfort she had with a good listener like him and the pleasure she got from the talking cure.

French director, Patrice Leconte spins an excellent story by putting two strangers together who develops an unusual friendship and mysterious intimacy between them. From a mistaken identity, a mystery woman and a simple man forge a level of trust and a romance. Leconte masterfully creates a sensation in developing the story as they touch one another with intense feelings. He is trying to give a message to the world that sometimes, chance meetings can change the life of the people for good. If people have someone who care enough to listen to them, it can could bring about a positive change in them. Bonnaire and Luchini give an excellent performance in presenting their longing, loneliness and intimacy. She returns to him just because she trusts him and his empathy gave her comfort.

We rate this movie Good.
