The movie is a true story of a bartender in the mid-1970s, who tried out
for the Philadelphia Eagles foot ball team and made it.
30-year-old Vince Papale (Mark Wahlberg), a substitute teacher and
part-time bartender is down on his luck. His wife has left him recently
and his only solace is playing football with his friends. A new coach,
the legendary Dick Vermeil (Greg Kinnear) joins the local football
team Philadelphia Eagles and he feels that the team needs a makeover.
He decides to host an open tryout to get some fresh hands.
All of Vince's friends think that he should try out his luck. He makes
it to the team and gets a chance to play with the people he admired
from the sidelines much to their annoyance. It is not easy for Vince
to be accepted by his teammates. Watch the movie to see whether an ordinary
guy like him can live up to a dream and make a difference.

Overall
the theme is not fresh but the movie is inspired by a real life story.
Direction by debutant Ericson Core is average except the action sequences,
which are handled really well. Performances of Mark Wahlberg as Vince
and Greg Kinnear as the coach are good but not outstanding. Elizabeth
Banks as Vince's love interest is cute. Rest of the cast including Michael
Rispoli, Kirk Acevedo and Michael Kelly as Vince's friends are convincing.
The movie is watchable and is good in its own way but doesn't fit
the bill of movies of similar genre like 'The Rookie', 'Remember the
Titans' and 'Rudy'.
