It is a documentary about the cultural effects of infamous XXX rated, 1972 film "Deep Throat" that took America by storm.
In 1972, America was at a turning point. Frustrations of the Vietnam war and the high unemployment rate at home were really bothering Americans to a great extend. In the same year a low budget porn film "Deep Throat" became notorious for the famous act by Linda Lovelace. The movie was filmed in 6 days on a shoe string budget of 25 thousand dollars.
Even though it was banned in 23 states ,the movie collected over 600 million dollars and is the most profitable film in motion picture history. The director and the stars of the porn film became well known and notorious. Hundreds of elites and socialites went to the Times Square theater of Manhattan and there was a big uproar in the society with the eruption of pornography into the mainstream. The movie brought in sexual liberation movements into a stable society. Many people proclaimed that it is a sex film for educational purposes. There was an investigation by a Presidential commission and other political and legal battles about this porno film.

The documentary "Inside Deep Throat" goes through the different aspects of the original film like personal, legal and criminal. It has vintage news footage, archival interviews and interviews with survivors involved in the original film. For interviews, the filmmakers bring in a wide variety of people like Dick Cavett, Norman Mailer, Hugh Hefner and John Walters who talk about the impact of 'Deep Throat" on the society.

The film goes through the damaged lives of the stars and the director. Linda Lovelace died in an auto accident in 2002 dead broke and she disowned the film in a memoir saying that she shot it under duress. Male star Harry Reems came under fire as the US government tried to eradicate pornography. The director Gerard Damiano never saw a dime from the film as his Mob partners bought him out at the initial success of the film. Other people involved with the film went through legal persecution and faced personal disasters.

The directors of ' Inside Deep Throat', Baily and Barbato courageously bring out a documentary with a perceptive look at the history of pornography business in America. They portray all the important aspects of the porn film very well. There are some moral issues about showing a graphic sex scene in the documentary. But the important point is that "Deep Throat" had changed the society and it was the first battle of the cultural war that still divide this nation. The expression "Deep Throat" is a reference to a sex act made famous by the notorious xxx rated film. But the documentary "Inside Deep Throat" brings together two different aspects of culture and history of sexual revolution in America.

We rate the movie above Good.
