Casey decided to do a physics project about the aerodynamics of skating
mainly because
she loved that sport. She goes to the ice rink in her home town in Connecticut,
run by
Tina Harwood (Kim Cattrall) who was an Olympic figure skating contender. Tina coaches her
daughter Gen (Hayden Panettiere) to become a champion in skating.
As Casey studied more about skating, she found a lot of correlation between
skating moments
and physics. She also realized that she could get more out of the project if she really
learned skating. She ended up taking lessons from Tina. She improved her
skating skills by
putting her knowledge of math and physics to work for her.
She used computer modeling on her laptop and practiced her moves and excelled on ice and
ended up to be a contender for the Championship. But Casey has to keep her skating
secret from her
mother who disapproves it. Will she be able to do it?. Will Casey be able to achieve her
dream to become a skating champion?. Find out for yourself.
The director Tim Fywell,

narrates an old theme in a new
way. The story is very much
predictable as the plot develops. But there are some surprises here and there.
He manages to make a modest film with a good number of excellent characters. It is nice to watch real skating
stars in the supporting roles and skating sequences are enjoyable. He successfully convey
a message to the public about the insanity that grips many parents, of
creating great athletes out of their sons and daughters and how some parents try to accomplish their
dreams through their kids.
Michelle Trachtenberg as Casey, presents an engaging and shining performance.
She portrays her transformation from a physics nerd to a figure
skating champion very well. Definitely she has worked hard on her skating
skills. She is lovable and graceful. She gives the movie life,
joy
and acceptance. It is her film all the way.
Joan Cusack and Kim Cattrall play their roles as mothers in different ways.
They are pushy and
their concerns about their kids are very well shown.
The movie will charm teenage girls and it is perfect for them. There are some boring bits
but as a whole it is entertaining and all comes out well at the end.
It shows that decisions made by adolescents are not always wrong and they can
still fulfill their passions and their dreams. Hey, kids don't give up your passions,
follow your dreams.
