Harold and Kumar are best friends and roommates. One Friday night
they get stoned in their Hoboken apartment as they were watching White
Castle TV commercial, which gives them a craving for hamburgers. Kumar
seems to remember that there is a White Castle near where they live
in New Jersey. They end up driving through many parts of New Jersey
in search of the hamburger franchise. Along the way they take a detour
to the hospital where Kumar's father and brother work and to Princeton
campus where IVY League school students like students of many other
schools, unwind and do stupid things. They also encounter a corrupt
racist cop, a wild raccoon and lot of rednecks, various naughty girls
and a sex maniac hitchhiker. Their car trip on the way to White Castle,
takes them through all kinds of bizarre trouble and near the end Kumar
concludes that their long night out with chaos and confusion, is really
all about the American Dream.
The film brings out the humiliation and degradation suffered by immigrants
in America represented by Harold and Kumar. Director boldly portray
harassment by the corrupted cop which is a frequent real life incident
that many immigrants face in US. Movie is a contrast to the general
perception in America that Asian Americans are much more clever and
way too smarter than the fat, stupid, dumb redneck Americans who harass,
intimidate and bully them. Leiner definitely created a multicultural
utopia and made movie an immigrant parable.
Penn and Cho make an excellent team. They carry the movie well with
their timely wit, charm and comic chemistry. They should be honoured
with an Oscar Award. Movie has many interesting characters and intelligent
humor. Even though it has some bad language and racist humor, the multicultural
cast is excellent and the movie definitely puts some light on 'Racism
in America'.
Movie is a celebration of pride and rights for all races, especially
immigrants in America. This is one of funniest movie of the year which
is worth a watch.
We rate this movie Very Good.
