Hellboy grows up to be a big red guy with an oversized right hand
and two disks sticking out of his forehead. He is now part of a top-secret
government organization known as the Bureau for Paranormal Research
and Defense (B.R.P.D.) and he works with Mer-Man Abe Sapien (Doug Jones)
to fight the evil creatures. He is a tough guy and a loner. He tries
to win the heart of pyro- kinetic beauty Liz Sherman ( Selma Blair ),
another paranormal, who in turn feels guilty because she starts fires
whenever she gets excited. They are made for each other.
In the mean time, womanizing Russian mystic, Rasputin (Karl Roden)
rises from the grave and tries to help the Nazis by reopening the portal.
In that way he can let the demons loose and destroy the World. Finally,
the fate of the World depends on the ability of Hellboy to stop Rasputin
and his demons.
The talented director, Guillermo Del Toro, does a great job in making
this movie. The movie takes us from the World War II era to the present
one, with some twists and turns. The movie has a lot of computer generated
beasts fighting one another. The special effects are first rate and
blend well with live action. The sets are great. Even though the story
is kind of dragging, it is compensated by spectacular action. Ron Perlman
as Hellboy gives a flawless performance. The rest of the cast are also
terrific in their supporting roles.
If you are a comic fan, you will love this movie. We rate this movie
Good.
