Based on the comic book series by Shirow Masamune, the movie is a sequel to Mamoru Oshii's 1995 anime classic, in Japanese with English subtitles. Set in the year 2032, the movie, a philosophical action drama deals with the question of human nature. Technology has been developed so much and the earth is run by cyborgs (human souls in mechanized bodies), androids and robotic dolls. Relationship between humans and machine is so intense, the erotic fantasy industry has been over crowed by manufacturers of androids programmed to be sex dolls.

Main character of the movie is a cyborg named Batou whose body is artificial but he has a human soul. He cares for his pet beagle and has memories of his female partner 'The Major' from the original 'Ghost in the shell'. In this sequel, he is a cop working for the government's anti-terrorist unit 'Public Security Section 9' investigating a case involving bizarre events involving female robots manufactured for sexual purposes.

Batou has a human partner, Togusa. As they start their investigation about these companies, they encounter a lot of problems but they get to the bottom of these bloody incidents.

Veteran director Oshii's brilliant follow up to his original film, deals with the nature and origin of humanity. As the story unfolds in the future, year 2032,Oshii successfully portray the connection between man and machine. Ingeniously crafted film with great attention to detail is aesthetically as well as philosophically pleasing. Like the original ,"Ghost 2"is elaborately designed and visually stunning. Computer generated sequences are spectacular and artistically well crafted, merging 2D and 3D animation.

Even though the characters lack emotion and there is no romance, the movie puts some light on the dark future of human kind dominated by violence. Oshii is trying to make a point about the perils of technological advancement and the total human dependence on it. The future looks darker as well as colder. Though incomprehensible at times, fans of sci-fi and anime genre will love the film.

We rate this movie Good.
