Godsend is a silly psycho dramatic thriller.

Paul and Jessie Duncan played by Greg Kinnear and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, lost their 8 year old son Adam (Cameron Bright), who was struck by a car. Jessie wants to have another child but can't conceive. Dr.Wells ( Robert De Niro), Jessie's former professor runs a research medical lab in Vermont. He offered the Duncans  a chance to clone the deceased Adam, by retrieving one of Adam's cells and implant it in Jessie's womb so she can bear a child genetically identical to dead Adam.

Paul was hesitant to go through this unnatural way of creating a human child but Jessie talks to him and changes his mind. As part of the deal, the Duncans have to cut ties with all their friends and family and move to Vermont in order to protect the identity of the new born child and to avoid legal problems.

Dr.Wells helps the Duncans to get settled in a nice house overlooking a lake. The child Adam No.2 was born without any complications. For eight years he was a pleasant child and identical to the dead Adam No.1. Right after his eighth birthday party, Adam No.2 starts to change and gets strange visions and acts weird. He becomes very hostile to everyone including his classmates and teachers. Now the Duncans are facing the consequences and dangers of playing with nature.

Cameron Bright as the young Adam does his role convincingly. Veteran actor De Niro presents an excellent performance but the high quality actor presents a low quality theme. Movie raises a lot of ethical and moral complications. It raises serious questions like should adoption be an option to cloning?. Can mankind conquer death with the modern science?

The whole story is based on a fantasy and it creates hostility towards religious beliefs. The movie doesn't have any perspective outlook for cloning a human child. Though it starts off well exploring the theme of cloning, later it degenerates into a typical horror film.  It is basically a low tech, dull movie with an unsatisfying end.

We rate this movie poor.
