It is a tale of an aging trainer and a young self destructive boxer,
who together tries to turn their life around.
Eddie Jones plays Marty Goldberg, an aging trainer
who has been a bachelor and doesn't have much to look forward to. J.P.Davis
plays Tommy Riley a young boxer who is poor and happen to live a loose
life. Due to lack of good training and discipline, he lost in the Olympic
trials.
Marty meets Tommy. Both of them had their own drawbacks.
Marty is aging and self centered while Tommy is self destructive and
haunted by a troubled past. Marty always loved the sport of boxing and
dreamt about training a National champion.
Marty decided to train Tommy and give him a chance
to get back into pro boxing. He saw great potential in Tommy as boxer.
He gave Tommy rigorous training and imposed strict rules on the young
fighter. Even though it took a while for Tommy to trust Marty, once
he does, two of them together worked towards achieving their dream for
the future. Find out whether Tommy will make it to the big match and
fulfill the dream of Marty and himself.
Director
Eddie O'Flaherty masterfully narrates a story of two people in distress
who are looking for a second chance to overcome their past and reinvent
a new future. He gives an emotional twist to the movie by developing
an intense and powerful relationship between the trainer and the trainee.
Boxing sequences are highly convincing. Movie is emotionally vibrant
and outrageously sentimental. Cinematography is superb.
Veteran actor Eddie Jones presents an excellent performance
as the aging and ailing trainer. He is caring as well as passionate
as a trainer. J.P.Davis is good as Tommy. Christina Chambers does a
decent job as Tommy's girl friend.
This low budget film has some similarities with the
successful "Million Dollar Baby". But on comparison this one
is just "One Dollar Baby".
Despite all it's flaws, the movie is an entertainer.
Boxing fans will love it.
We rate this movie ABOVE AVERAGE.
