A modern romantic comedy which is an adaptation of the old popular TV show
"Bewitched".
Nicole Kidman plays Isabel Bigelow, a modern day witch who moves to the suburb
of California's San Fernando Valley. Now she lives in a new house in a new
neighborhood. She is determined to disavow her supernatural powers forever and
be a normal human being.
Will Ferrell plays Jack Wyatt, a Hollywood actor who is hit by a major
disaster in his career. In order to get back on track and revamp his career,
Jack managed to get a role in the 1960's sitcom "Bewitched",
playing the role of mortal character Darrin. Jack is in search of a female
character who can be Samantha played by Elizabeth Montgomery in the original
show.
Jack accidentally meets Isabel and wants to make her his co-star in
"Bewitched". Jack is convinced that Isabel will be perfect for the
role because of her similarity to Samantha. On her part, Isabel is taken with
Jack, seeing him as the Prince Charming that she always wanted to marry and
settle down.
Jack takes Isabel
to the set where she charms the producers and directors to get her role.
Find out whether Isabel would be able to find the true love she is looking
for.
Director Nora Ephron narrates an old romantic story in a modern way.
As a tribute to the popular TV show, the new version doesn't do justice.
The movie lacks the novelty and charisma to attract the younger audiences
who doesn't know anything about the older version of "Bewitched".
The versatile actress Nicole Kidman presents a decent performance as
Isabel. She is cute, charming and portray her magical power very
well to capture the attention of her fans. Will Ferrell also presents
a decent performance. Movie is practically carried by Kidman and Ferrell
and there is good chemistry
between them. Both Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine are underused.
They are funny but not strong enough to make a memorable impression
on the viewers.
Movie lacks that magical touch of a fairy tale. This could be an enjoyable
film for those who like the original television show. For younger people
there may not be anything special about it.
We rate this movie AVERAGE.
