When Warren looks back to his sixty plus years of life, he couldn't
find any major achievement that he made. After watching a television
infomercial, he writes a cheque to a "Save the Children" organization
and adopts a six year old Tanzanian boy named Ndugu. Then unexpectedly
Helen dies. Warren is left alone with his thoughts and then he sets
on a self-awareness journey in his new motor home. After making a few
stops along the way, he heads for Denver to visit his daughter Jeannie.
There he tries to persuade her not to marry her no- good fiancé Randall
(Dermot Mulroney) and find a meaning to his own life.
Three time Oscar winner, Jack Nicholson, carries the movie with relish.
Story of Warren can be any body's story, a man that we normally run
into, in real life. Nicholson breathes life into his role as the 66
year old Warren who has always lived by the norms. Superb performance
from the extremely talented actor. The rest of the cast also has put
in credible performances especially Kathy Bates, another Oscar winner
who plays Randall's modern mom. Director Payne and Jim Taylor have crafted
out some wonderful characters in this film. There are plenty of hilarious
scenes and brilliant dialogues.
The movie shows a man struggling with a serious problem of life. It
also puts some light on the darker side of the self defeating routines
people explore when they are in despair. This movie will have a niche
audience of older movie goers who will appreciate it more than the younger
ones.
We rate this movie very good
