'Analyze That' is a sequel to the amusing movie 'Analyze This' directed by Harold Ramis. After spending more than two years in Sing Sing, mob boss Paul Vitti (Robert Deniro) is nearing his parole. He fakes craziness by singing songs from West side story out of the blue over and over in the middle of a riot in the prison, when he realizes that a rival family has planned a hit on him. He is conditionally released by FBI into Dr.Ben Sobel (Billy Crystal), his trusted psychotherapist's custody, with a warning that the doctor will be charged with aiding and abetting, if Paul escapes. Paul becomes a houseguest at Sobel's place much to his new wife Laura's dismay. Dr. Sobel has enough problems on his own with the recent death of his father but he has to help Paul out with his problems and help him go straight, in order to get on with his own life.
Paul tries out different jobs but his temper messes up all his attempts at jobs like car salesman, restaurant host and jewellery salesman. His actual plan is to pick up where he left off in the family business. Dr.Sobel tries hard to find Paul a decent job and gets him a job as a consultant to a TV crime series called 'Little Caesar'. The job is a perfect cover for Paul to get back to his business. Meanwhile the FBI is tracking him hoping he will lead them to the criminal underworld.

Compared with the sequel 'Analyze This' a successful comedy, in which Billy Crystal, as a fussy Jewish shrink and Robert De Niro as a neurotic mobster gave excellent performances, nothing in 'Analyze That' seems to be that funny. Poor character development and bad scripting stalls the movie on and off and puts a damper on it. Director Ramis' clumsiness can be seen all over the movie. The talents of Lisa Kudrow as Crystal's wife and Cathy Moriarty who plays De Niro's wife are wasted. At some point you may wonder about the real theme of the movie, whether it is the story of a nut case doctor and a mobster!

While 'This' was hilarious, 'That' is dull and there is nothing remarkable about it. We rate the movie below average.
