Abhishek Bachchan to make international stage debut
Actor Abhishek Bachchan will make his global stage debut at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards function at Amsterdam June 16.

A medley of songs that Abhishek plans to perform at the function is still being fine-tuned by choreographer Shiamak Davar, the Bollywood actor told IANS on phone from Mumbai.

"Being my international debut though, I am sure we will have new items as well as some of the songs from my films over the last three years," he said.

"I have known Shiamak since childhood and am looking forward to what he puts together. He's a lot of fun to work with, as I found while shooting for the song he choreographed for us in `Bunty Aur Babli' (that releases next week).

"There will most probably be some solo performances. The female artistes who will be performing with me are still being finalised," the actor said.

Abhishek will return to the city of tulips a dozen years after he last visited there with his parents Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan as a schoolboy.

Asked about the high profile he enjoyed at the IIFA in Singapore last year, Abhishek commented: "IIFA is like family to me. I really enjoy getting away for a weekend with our colleagues in the industry. This is the third time I am spending time at IIFA and I always enjoy it immensely."

Last year, the film "Yuva", a multi-starrer that included Abhishek, was the premiere movie at the IIFA event. His role in the film was acclaimed, although it failed at the box office.

Abhishek also enjoyed high visibility at media launches in Singapore, including one at which he sat with his father Amitabh Bachchan while a biography on the screen legend was re-launched by his mother.

Jaya had publicly declared how proud she was of her son's performance in "Yuva". "My son, you were brilliant!" she had said.

Abhishek insisted that the role of Amitabh as the IIFA ambassador did not influence decisions about his involvement in the annual star-studded event.

"(My father) does not get involved in those decisions. He leaves them to the IIFA organisers."

Commenting on his father enjoying resurgent fame, from product endorsements to public appearances, Abhishek said: "He has always been the biggest."

"During the shooting of a rap song (by Amitabh) for `Bunty Aur Babli', I was amazed just watching him," said the star son.
