Named after the music maestro Gayanacharya Bhaskarbua Bhakhle, the All-India
Bhaskar Rao Nritya and Sangeet Sammelan organised by Pracheen Kala Kendra is
being held in Chandigarh annually for the past 3 to 4 decades. Pracheen Kala
Kendra was set up in 1956 as an autonomous body for reviving, promoting and
developing the waning tradition of Fine Arts. Besides organising regular performances
by both renowned and up-coming artistes, the Kendra provides adequate facilities
for training, research, and conduct examinations in Music, Dance and Fine Arts.
The two day Sammelan which is one of the oldest music and dance festivals
of its kind in this part of the country, is the Kendra’s homage to Bhaskarbua
Bakhle offered uninterruptedly every year since 1969. Bhaskarbua Bakhle was
an eminent exponent of Indian classical music (1869-1922), who dedicated his
life to the promotion of art and culture.
Since its inception in 1969, many luminaries from
the field of classical dance and music have had the occasion to be part of the
annual Bhaskar Rao Nritya and Sangeet Sammelan. This is evident from the participation
