Abhishek Dutta, a budding designer from Kolkata believes diversity in
garment designing. Once aimed for a seat in IIT, It is his mother who
had deviated his career into the world of glamour by bringing home an
application form for a degree in design at Wigan & Leigh College.
During his college days he won the most creative design award at his graduation
show Entr'acte99 and the Smirnoff international fashion award.
To make himself a step ahead of others, Abhishek Dutta concentrate on
mixing up with wearable clothes with unconventional fabrics like denims,
velvets, leather etc along with a fusion of embroidery and other Art works.
He could provide a variety of choice and alternatives to his clients ranging
from women's wear to men's wear, Indian to western. There is originality
and a lot of creativity in his distinctive style, which is portrayed in
his garments. He loves working with handloom and natural fabrics and experiments
with asymmetrical cuts. His collections became popular as it present Indian
sensibilities with western twists. His latest line this season includes
trendy accessories men's line and footwear too. The designer had launched
his couture line Abhishek Dutta in 2002 and then in 2004, he revealed
his pret line Adnormal. He specializes in Indo-western outfits for youngsters.
He has got his credibility in dressing up some of the
celebrities like Raima, Riya, Konkona, Vidya in Bollywood who has been
his loyal admirers of his work. It was Abhishek who had designed the outfits
of Miss India 2001. In 2005, he entered into International Market when
he was invited as the only designer to Showcased at Bali Fashion week
followed by Asia fashion week in 2006 and 2007 respectively. This creative
designer has participated in four seasons of Lakme Fashion week from 2006
to 2008 and made his debut in Spring Summer Edition of WIFW. After participating
in LFW and WIFW, Dutta has decided to Stick with WIFW as he thinks it
is right place to expand his business overseas.
He has recently launched his furnishing line in collaboration
with Portico-Newyork that includes bedsheet, cushion covers, duvet covers
etc. Today Abhishek retails from twenty stores across the country including
the country's leading designer stores such as Kimaya, Ayamik Samsara,
Aza (both Delhi and Mumbai) Amara, Ishna (Mumbai), Origins ,Da Design
Street, Oorja & Elahe , Anonymns, (Hyderabad), Siyaa, Little India
and Cima Designs, (Kolkata) ,Mogra ,Ffolio & Bliss (Banglore), Nilibar
(Ludhiana). His creations is also available internationally in Singapore,
Dubai, Kuwait ,Riyadh, Malyasia, London and New York. He will be exhibiting
his works at the Tranoi fair being held during March 2009.
