How to Get there
Air:
Tuticorin airport (TCR) at Vakaikulam in Tuticorin alias Thoothukkudi
district is the nearest airport to Tirunelveli which is located at a distance
of about 22kms from the city. Other nearby airports are at Madurai (151kms)
and Thiruvananthapuram (160kms) that has regular flights for various cities
in India as well as South and West Asia. It will take around 4 hours by
road from Tirunelveli to reach these airports.
Rail:
Tiruneveli is an important railway junction in the Southern Railway and
the busiest one in Tamil Nadu. The major railway station, Tiunelveli Junction
(code : TEN), located few kilometers away from the city center has 6 platforms,
of which first three for Metre gauge and the remaining for Broad gauge.
It is connected to all major cities like Chennai, Madurai, Kolkata, Bangalore,
Trichi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Mumbai. Various express and super
fast trains such as Nellai Express, Kanniyakumari Express, Ananthapuri
Express, Koodal Nagar Express, Nagarcoil-Mumbai Express and Quilon Mail
passes through Tirunelveli.
Other minor railway stations in the city are Tirunelveli
Town (TYT), Palayamkottai (PCO), Pettai (PEA), Melapalayam (MP) and Talaiyoothu
(TAY).

Road:
Tirunelveli is located on the National Highway no. 7 and is served by
a good network of roads. It is connected to all the major cities of India
by national as well as state highways. Both Government and Private Omnie
buses form the network of Road Transport in this City. The town is on
the way to Kanniyakumari from Madurai. Tirunelveli Central Bus Station
is located adjacent to the Tirunelveli Junction Railway Station. The station
operates super fast, express and deluxe buses to all towns in Tamil Nadu
as well as to all major cities in Kerala and Karnataka.
Auto rickshaws, taxis and cycle rickshaws are available for local transportation.
