Government
Museum
Established in 1990, Coimbatore Government Museum is located at VOC Park Road.
The collection in the museum includes specimen related to art, archeology, anthropology,
numismatics, botany, zoology and geology. The museum has been divided into 5
sections which houses a large collection of artifacts such as Mesolithic stone
tools, calcimined bone remains of animals and humans, wood carvings of 18th
century, bronze icons, stone sculptures, inscribed stone slabs and tribal artifacts.
A separate section for old rocks, minerals and wood fossils and tribal medicinal
plants is also maintained here.
The museum is opened to public on all days from 9.30a.m to 5.00pm except Fridays,
second Saturdays and public holidays.

Forest
College Museum
Located 3.5 km north of the Coimbatore railway station in the campus of Southern
Forest Ranger's College, Forest College Museum is one of its kind in the country.
The museum houses the fossils of plants and animals and has rare collection
of dead specimen of plants and animals of different variety. Besides these,
it also exhibits collection of different minerals, rocks, pests, snakes, insects
and fungal diseases that badly affect plants and trees. The botanical Garden
near the museum have nearly 300 species of rare and endangered plants. The museum
operates an advisory counter offering service to promote businesses related
to plant husbandry.
Khadi
Gandhi Gallery
Successive to the Gandhi gallery in Madurai, the Government of Tamil Nadu had
set up Khadi Gandhi Gallery in Coimbatore on 15th July 1970. The gallery exhibits
pictures of Gandhiji from his childhood to death. These photographs, taken from
all the major events occurred in his life, are arranged in sequence in separate
sections. Rare photographic collection such as ‘Journey through Harijan Life’,
‘Family’, ‘Friends’, ‘Independence Struggle’, ‘Jail Life’ and ‘Peace Talks’
are also exhibited there. Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated here with much splendor
along with Bhajans and other activities.Top
