Mandira dam, located about 32 kms away from Rourkela
near Kansbahal across the river Sankha, is the major source of water for
the region. This huge reservoir has been constructed by the SAIL authorities
of Rourkela for for the purpose of storing water for supply to the Rourkela
Steel Plant (RSP). It stores water in rainy season and was released
to river Bramani during scarcity of water in summer. At present, Mandira
dam supplies water to not less than 250 surrounding villages.
For the tourist, boating facilities are provided and one can also enjoy
fishing here. One can enter the Dam site only with the prior permission
of the Officer-in-Charge at the main entrance. A beautiful garden
is located nearby the dam. There is also a guest house for the VIP visitors.
